When you can’t walk, you can still fly!” is the strong message behind HandiFly, a project that was launched by the Fédération Française du Parachutisme (FFP) in 2016 and that is coordinated by FFP Deputy Director Jérôme David, one of the panelists at Indoor Skydiving 2020 | First Global Summit (ISGS).
“When you can’t walk, you can still fly!” is the powerful message that is conveyed through an international program launched by the FFP in 2016. ISGS panelist Jérôme David, who is the FFP Deputy Director, coordinates the program. Under the name HandiFly, it creates opportunities for the motor-disabled to discover – and to compete – in skydiving.
After organizing the inaugural edition of the HandiFly Euro Challenge in Lille, France, back in 2016, Jérôme brought the concept to an international stage, holding the subsequent editions in Belarus (2017), Russia (2018) and Portugal (2019).
On 21 November 2019, the HandiFly Euro Challenge was selected from a total of 144 projects as one of nine nominees for the European Commission's #BeInclusive Sports Awards.
"You see your wheelchair standing outside and you're flying like a bird!" A statement that was made by Belgian Paralympian Marieke Vervoort (1979 - 2019) only corroborates the potential of skydiving as a sport for the handicapped.
During 2020, the FFP will implement a development program focused on Indoor HandiFly. The first Indoor HandiFly Euro Challenge is scheduled from 4 to 7 March in 2021.
